Trump endorses Michigan election-fraud lawyer for attorney general

September 16, 2021, 9:00 PM

Donald Trump has endorsed for Michigan attorney general a lawyer who filed a failed lawsuit claiming election fraud in Antrim County.

Republican Matt DePerno is hoping to unseat Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel next November. He's facing state Rep. Ryan Berman (R-Commerce Township) in the primary.

The endorsement could frustrate Michigan GOP insiders who, according to Detroit News state politics reporter Craig Mauger, are waiting for former House Speaker Tom Leonard to enter the race. Leonard lost to Nessel by 3 points in 2018.

You could almost hear Trump shouting his hyperbolic approval through the statement released via his Save America PAC. We'd almost forgotten what he sounded like.

"Dana Nessel, the Radical Left, and the RINOs are targeting Matt because he gets results and has exposed so much Voter Fraud in Antrim County, and many more places, in the 2020 Election," he wrote. "He will never give up, and that’s why they absolutely cannot stand him!"

DePerno's suit over Antrim county's election results was dismissed in May. A glitch initially caused the Republican-leaning county to appear as if it was going for Biden, but Trump eventually won by nearly 4,000 votes and election officials conceded the mistake.

According to The Hill, Trump has called it the “major Michigan Election Fraud case.”

Trump has endorsed several dozen candidates in races across the country since leaving office.
