Skiers and snowboarders catch a Thanksgiving weekend break, more than three weeks ahead of winter's official start.
Trails are open at two Oakland County slopes that turned on snowmakers earlier this week and just gained an inch or so of real fluff. Pine Knob in Clarkston opened Saturday afternoon and evening for six hours, while Mt. Holly followed Sunday.

Each has skiing and boarding until 5 p.m. today for $40.
"We're thankful for snow guns, cold temperatures, and natural snowfall," the Holly attraction on Dixie Highway posts Sunday. It has five groomed runs and six lifts operating, as well as a rope tow and moving "carpet" in a beginner area.
"It's a Thankful weekend," posts a social media manager at Pine Knob, which opened two chair lifts and a rope tow. "Beginner carpets are not open yet," the resort advises.
Alpine Valley in White Lake hasn't started its season.
