Veteran Detroit-area newsman Steve Garagiola will close the curtain on a 44-year career in television this Sunday, when he retires from WDIV.
"For the past 27 years, Local-4 has been my TV family where I have had the pleasure of working with many of the most talented, honest, and dedicated people in this industry," he says in a farewell message posted to Facebook Wednesday morning.
Garagiola began his career at Lansing's WILX in 1977. He joined WDIV in 1995 as a sports reporter, but quickly switched to news after covering the bombing of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
