The convention center's new logo
We've known it's coming for a while, and Thursday it's official. The downtown convention center long known as Cobo, then known as the TCF Center, now has a new name: Huntington Place.

Long known as Cobo Center, the facility that hosts the North American International Auto Show and other large conferences and events was renamed TCF Center in August 2019 after then Detroit-based TCF Bank acquired the naming rights for $33 million over 22 years. TCF Bank was then acquired by Columbus-based Huntington Bank in a $22 billion deal that closed this past summer. Huntington executives say Detroit serves as a co-headquarters city for the bank.
"We are proud that following the TCF-Huntington merger, the name of our new combined bank now graces the walls of this civic center that means so much to the people of Detroit and all of southeast Michigan," Gary Torgow, chairman of Huntington Bank, said in the release. "From high school graduations to the North American International Auto Show, from speeches by sitting presidents to the annual NAACP Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner, this venerable facility is part of the fabric of our community and Huntington is fortunate to now be a part of it."
TCF Center's greatest national profile came after the November 2020 election, when the absentee ballot counting process there became the focus of voter-fraud conspiracy theories spread by disappointed Trump voters.
