Hospitalized adult Covid patients reached 4,901 statewide Monday, a record number of confirmed and suspected cases. That's 239 more than the previous Monday.

Pediatric virus patients dropped by 27 during the past week to 108.
Adult intensive care units throughout the state have 857 patients with coronavirus or its symptoms, including 539 on ventilators.
New state health department data for six Southeast Michigan counties shows 127 more adult cases and 23 fewer children and adolescents compared to Jan. 3. The new totals are 2,951 adult patients and 76 in pediatric units.
Separately, the state reports 44,524 new Covid cases for Saturday to Monday, for a daily average of 4,841 per day. During that three-day stretch there were 56 deaths.
At Metro Detroit's largest hospital groups, Beaumont and Henry Ford, pandemic admissions rose by a higher rate than the 5% statewide increase in adult patients.
Beaumont Health's eight hospitals have 854 coronavirus patients Monday, 14.5% more than a week earlier. Eighty-three are in intensive care, up 24% in the past week.
Only two branches have fewer Covid patients than on the first Monday of 2022.
No in-patient beds were available at the group's sites in Troy, Trenton and Wayne, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. Covid cases fill one-third of the beds at Beaumont Troy, more than two-thirds at Trenton's branch and 43% at its 99-bed hospital in Wayne.
Henry Ford Health System lists 583 Covid patients receiving treatment, nearly 9% more than last Monday. Almost 200 are at the main hospital in Detroit.
Each of its five hospitals have more pandemic in-patients and more in intensive care units than seven days earlier. No Henry Ford sites exceed 85% capacity, however.
Beaumont made a public appeal for help Sunday to ease the crush. This message ran as a full-page ad in Crain's Detroit Business, the Free Press and suburban papers:

At Henry Ford Wyandotte, which has 96 Covid patients, a civilian team of 30 federal doctors, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and supply chain personnel arrived Monday for two weeks of staff support.
A Department of Defense medical team of 23 people began assisting Beaumont Dearborn healthcare workers Dec. 3 and will stay through this month, perhaps longer. The western Wayne hospital has 118 Covid patients, including a dozen in the ICU.
