School Covid clusters affect 22 suburban students, 7 Detroit district staffers

Five Metro Detroit districts report new school-related Covid clusters affecting a total of 22 students, a weekly state roundup shows.

Seven administrative staff members of the Detroit Public Schools Community District also were diagnosed with coronavirus. The city's students and teachers haven't been back in classrooms yet this year. Remote learning, which began Jan. 6, runs until Jan. 31.

Statewide, 74 new school outbreaks with at least three cases were recorded last week, the Department of Health and Human Services posted Tuesday afternoon. These are the tricounty area's student diagnoses:

  • Allen Park: Linemann Elementary, 7 students

  • Lake Orion: Webber Elementary, 5 students 

  • Dearborn Heights: Crestwood High, 4 students

  • Sterling Heights: Grissom Middle School, 3 students

  • Center Line High School: 3 students
