'Major impacts' on travel: Up to 16 inches of snow may blanket Metro Detroit by Thursday night

Here's another reason to wish you were vacationing in Florida.

 

The National Weather Service forecasts 12-16 inches of snow in Metro Detroit, starting Wednesday morning and running through Thursday evening.

The federal weather station in White Lake describes the snowfall as "long duration, light to moderate intensity," with rates possibly exceeding one inch per hour at times.

"Travel could be very difficult at times, with major impacts on daily commuting cycles," the weather service posts in an updated forecast at 4:30 p.m. Monday. It also tweeted an amusing reply earlier:
