The brick-and-mortar version of popular vegan food truck Shimmy Shack will close in mid-March, just three years after opening.

The Plymouth Township restaurant shuts down March 11, it announced in a Facebook post. Shimmy Shack's food truck will be back starting March 13 and occasional pop ups will continue in Trenton. Items including baked goods will also be available for sale directly out of its Plymouth kitchen.

Shimmy Shack is styled as a retro, 1950s diner — think coneys and burgers — but 100-percent vegan and gluten free. The Food Truck launched in 2013 and was named one of the nation's top five by PETA.

A going-away party is scheduled Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the storefront, 1440 Sheldon Rd. Dr. Joel Kahn, a cardiologist and Deadline Detroit contributor who owned the vegan restaurant Greenspace, will speak on the benefits of a vegan diet.
