An 18-year-old Detroit man was struck and killed attempting to cross the southbound lanes of I-275 Sunday following a vehicle crash. He was the second pedestrian to die in a similar situation on a Metro Detroit freeway in a week.

Fox 2 Detroit reports that in the most recent incident:
According to a series of tweets from the Michigan State Police, just after 11 p.m. Friday, there was a single car crash on the northbound side of I-275 near Ford Road in Canton. The three people in the car got out of the crashed vehicle and tried to cross the southbound lanes of I-275, at which time a semi truck hit and killed one of the men, an 18-year-old from Detroit. The driver of the semi truck stopped on the scene.
The dead man's name hasn't yet been released. In the previous incident:
On Thursday night, 21-year-old Lendell Reed, Jr. was hit and killed on I-94 near Mt. Elliott Street in Detroit. Reed was the victim of a hit-and-run crash that left his vehicle stalled on the freeway. When he exited his car to look at the damage, a second vehicle hit and killed him. That vehicle stayed on the scene.
Obviously, anyone in a similar situation is advised to exercise extreme caution when exiting a vehicle on or near a freeway. It is safer to stay in a wrecked vehicle and wait for police to direct traffic. Metro Detroit's state police post tweets:
"No matter what kind of road you are on DO NOT get out of your car and stand in the roadway or try to cross the freeway. You are putting your life at risk. Traffic is too fast on the freeway to judge if you can make it or not. Stay in your car with your seatbelt on!"
