Family, friends, supporters and notables, including the Rev. Al Sharpton and civil rights attorney Ben Crump, gathered Friday in Grand Rapids for the funeral of Patrick Lyoya, the 26-year-old who was fatally shot April 4 by a police officer during a traffic stop.

“(Lyoya) ran into an America that we know too well,” Sharpton said during a speech, according to The Detroit News. “Enough is enough.”

Lyoya's grieving parents Peter and Dorcas Lyoya attended the service at the Renaissance Church of God in Christ that included a lot of passion and heartbreak.

The News reports:

With chanting and rousing speeches, it sometimes seemed more like a political rally than a funeral. Little was said about Lyoya’s personal life. None of the speakers knew him, but they were well aware of his plight.

“We believe the whole world is watching Grand Rapids, Michigan,” said attorney Crump after the funeral.
