Karamo, GOP pick for Michigan secretary of state, called abortion 'satanic' and 'child sacrifice'

Political newcomer Kristina Karamo of Oak Park, this year's presumptive Republican nominee for secretary of state, two years ago described abortion as "child sacrifice ... a very satanic practice."

The self-described "proud Christian patriot" voiced that incendiary language and other extreme views in two 2020 podcasts that draw CNN coverage as she awaits formal nomination next month to oppose incumbent Jocelyn Benson. Karamo, a part-time community college instructor, was endosed by party delegates at an April convention and earlier by Donald Trump.

CNN senior editor Andrew Kaczynski listened to a 59-minute episode titled "Life Is So Beautiful" and others that the mother of two recorded in a podcast series on politics, culture and theology.

"Abortion is really nothing new," she said in October 2020. "The child sacrifice is a very satanic practice, and that's precisely what abortion is. And we need to see it as such."

"When people in other cultures, when they engage in child sacrifice, they didn't just sacrifice the child for the sake of bloodshed," Karamo said later in the episode. "They sacrificed the child 'cuz they were hoping to get prosperity and that's precisely why people have abortion now.

"'Because I’m not ready, I don't wanna have a baby. I don't feel like it. I don't have time. I wanna make more money. I want my freedom.' So you're sacrificing that child hoping to get something out of their death, which is your freedom, your happiness, your prosperity."

The cable network describes Karamo, 37, as "a devout conservative Christian who has served on the board of Michigan’s Right to Life organization and on the board of an anti-abortion pregnancy crisis center affiliate in Detroit." (That center is Stanton Detroit.)

Karamo frequently attacks those she disagrees with as being instruments of Satan or "demonic," including the Democratic Party and the LGBTQ community.

On July 31, 2020, in the debut of a 50-part series called "It's Solid Food," CNN says Karamo linked current-era abortions to a practice "thousands of years [ago that was] just packaged differently. ... [People] were sacrificing them to these deities, which were really demons."

She's also quoted as saying this two months later on Sept. 4:

"I know it's gonna sound really crazy ... but having intimate relationships with people who are demonically possessed or oppressed — I strongly believe that a person opens themselves up to possession. Demonic possession is real."

"Karamo and her campaign did not respond to multiple requests for comment," CNN notes in Monday's report

She was a prolific podcaster from July 2020 until February 2021, taping over four dozen episodes in seven months -- occasionally twice a day. Installments run from 24 to 72 minutes each, with most roughly an hour.

Karamo explains why she called the series "It's Solid Food:"

Milk is for babies! Solid Food, the facts of reality, is tough to accept and digest.

We cover all topics in Christian theology, culture and politics. Quick soundbites of a topic leave you deceived. So let’s dig for the truth and eat some Solid Food.
