A mask mandate is being lifted for patients and visitors at  major hospitals in Metro Detroit.

As of Friday, masks will no longer be required at Henry Ford Health, Corewell Health (which includes Beaumont), and DMC facilities.

Michigan Medicine and Ascension had already lifted the mandate.

Of course, hospitals are listing exceptions.

"If you are immunocompromised and admitted to a hospital unit or visiting someone who is immunocompromised in a hospital unit, we kindly ask that you to continue to wear a mask," Ford Health wrote in a an email to patients on Thursday. "We also ask that you wear a mask if you have cold-like or COVID-19 symptoms, and of course, everyone is still welcome to wear masks if they choose to do so."

Starting Monday, masking will be optional for patients, visitors and colleagues at Trinity Health Michigan's hospitals, outpatient facilities, home health and physician offices, the Detroit News reports. Ditto for McLaren Heath Care's hospitals with the exception of critical care units, Karmanos cancer institute facilities, subacute outpatient rehabilitation facilities and skilled nursing facilities.

Last year, some major industries lifted mask requirements including airlines.

These days very few people wear masks in public spaces.
