Cheyvoryea Gibson Named Head of the Detroit FBI Office

Cheyvoryea Gibson, formerly the section chief of the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division at headquarters, has been named head of the Detroit FBI office, which covers Michigan.

Gibson joined the FBI as a special agent in 2003 and was assigned to the Washington Field Office, where he investigated criminal enterprises and was a member of the Safe Streets Gang Task Force, according to a press release.

In 2011, he was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters. In 2013,  Gibson was named supervisory special agent in the Washington Field Office and worked criminal enterprise investigations. In 2017, Gibson was promoted to section chief of the Violent Crime Unit in the Criminal Investigative Division.

In 2018, Gibson became an assistant inspector in the Inspection Division. The following year, Gibson was promoted to the assistant special agent in charge of the Baltimore Field Office, Violent Crimes Branch. In 2021, he was named section chief in the Criminal Investigative Division’s Intelligence Section.

Before joining the bureau, Gibson served as a deputy sheriff and detective with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Fla.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Leo University and a master’s degree from Boston University.
