Michelle West
President Joe Biden on Sunday commuted the life sentence of Michelle West. The Michigan woman was sentenced in 1994 to two life terms, plus 50 years for her involvement with drug crimes in Detroit, including aiding and abetting a drug related murder, Michigan Public radio.
Biden's order commutes the sentence but leaves in place the conviction and the conditions of her supervised release. Biden said West "demonstrated extraordinary rehabilitation and personal transformation.”
Her sentence will officially end next month. Her exact release date isn't clear.
Amanda Bashi, a federal public defender, said, according to Michigan radio, that West was not an instigator and only tangentially connected to people involved in violent drug crimes in Detroit.
