Report From Monday

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is stepping up to collect clothing for three children who had been abandoned by their mother for years and was living in squalor in a rental home in Pontiac.

There are two daughters, 12 and 13, and a son, 15.

The sheriff's office posted this on Facebook:

We are collecting donations for the three children we recovered over the weekend from a horrendous situation.

  • The 12-year-old girl’s clothing size is 12 and 6 ½ shoe size.
  • The 13-year-old girl’s clothing size is 14 and 7 shoe size.
  • The boy is a medium in men clothing with a size 9 shoe.

The sheriff's office said that new or gently used and clean items can be dropped off at its office at 1200 N Telegraph, 38 E. in Pontiac or at the Pontiac substation just off of Widetrack at 110 E Pike St.

Authorities discovered the situation on Friday during a welfare check. The mother is custody and Child Protective Services have placed the three children in the custody of a relative.

Rent on the home they were staying in had not been paid since October and the mother lived elsewhere. The children had not attended school since the mother left them in 2020 or 2021.

The mother or a stranger would leave food weekly for the children on the front porch.
