The trial of Jennifer and James Crumbley, parents of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, continues to make headlines.

The latest: James Crumbley filed a motion Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court requesting a new trial, citing in part agreements made with two Oxford school officials that were not shared with his defense attorney, Kara Berg of The Detroit News reports.

Both parents are serving 10 to 15 years in state prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the mass shooting at the high school committed by their son. The trial essentially came down to whether Crumbley and his wife were negligent parents, who contributed to the mass shooting that left four dead and seven wounded.

Alona Sharon, Crumbley's appellate attorney, argues that Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews failed to examine whether the shooter properly asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and that Crumbley's trial attorney, Mariell Lehman, failed to object when Matthews did not do so, The News reports.

The attorney also contends that the prosecution failed to disclose to the defense agreements with witnesses—Oxford High School counselor Shawn Hopkins and former Dean of Students Nick Ejak—both of whom met with the shooter and his parents on the morning of the 2021 shooting, The News reports.
