Ionia County Prosecutor Kyle Butler says it's rare for state corrections officers to be charged for use of force, according to the Detroit Free Press.
But Butler is charging four officers with brutally beating an inmate at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility near Ionia, leaving him with a broken back, a broken hand, and broken facial bones, the Free Press reports.
Butler says he relied on a report from the Michigan State Police, which included video evidence.
The officers charged include Thomas Rubley, Andrew Ray Carr, Al-Ani Mustafa, and Jordan Thomas Csernyik. They are scheduled to appear on April 23 for a probable cause exam in 64A District Court in Ionia.
They face charges of misconduct in office, a felony, and aggravated assault, a misdemeanor.
