Detroit Pistons Hall of Famer Joe Dumars, who went on to become president of the Pistons' basketball operations, is expected to be named president of basketball operations of the New Orleans Pelicans, ESPN reports. He returns home to his native state.

Dumars, 61, was president of operations for the Pistons from 2000 to 2014. During that time, in 2004, the team won the NBA championship. He was credited with doing a lot of good, but was also criticized for some bad trades and drafts.

That being said, CBS Sports Sam Quinn writes:

So please, join me on this deep dive into Dumars' later work as we attempt to explain why the Pelicans make one of the strangest front-office hires in recent NBA history, and, more importantly, why that hire looks like such a bad idea on paper.

Dumars was part of the championship "Bad Boys," era, but was always considered a gentleman.
