Incumbents Mary Waters and Coleman Young II Win Easily in Detroit At-Large Council Race

Incumbent Coleman A. Young II, Mary Waters

Incumbent at-large Detroit City Council members Mary Waters and Coleman A. Young II easily won re-election Tuesday night.

With all 430 precincts reporting, Waters had 36 percent of the vote (63,064), followed by Young with nearly 34 percent (58,786).

There were four candidates running for the two at-large seats. Former council member candidate Janeé Ayers came in third with 19 percent of the vote (33,571), and Detroit Fire Department official James Harris finished with about 10 percent (18,251).

In other council races:

District 1: Incumbent James Tate Jr. ran unopposed.

District 2: Incumbent Angela Whitfield Calloway defeated Roy McCalister Jr., 12,923–6,682 (65–33 percent).

District 3: Incumbent Scott Benson beat Cranstana Anderson, 7,758 votes to 3,293 (69–29 percent).

District 4: Latisha Johnson ran unopposed.

District 5: Renata Miller beat Willie Burton, 8,522 votes to 6,485 (56–42 percent).

District 6: Incumbent Gabriela Santiago-Romero beat Tyrone Carter, 5,450 votes to 3,230 (62–37 percent).

District 7: Denzel Anton McCampbell defeated Karen Whitsett, 7,116 votes to 4,933 (58–40 percent).
