Update: 9:30 a.m. Saturday: Newly-elected Detroit Board of Police Commissioner Darious Morris said Friday he plans to resign after he was criticized for calling out officers in the 9th precinct by name on social media for alleged racist behavior and after the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office decided to re-file a 2021 gun charge against him, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Morris' social media post prompted the police to call for his resignation. The union called Morris' posts "dangerous" and "alarming anti-police rhetoric," the Freep reports.

Report From Friday
Wayne County prosecutors plan to refile a criminal charge against Detroit Police Commissioner Darious Morris for being a felon in possession of a weapon, the Detroit News reports.
The 2021 incident ended up getting dismissed after a Detroit police officer failed to appear for a hearing.
Morris, a Detroit police commissioner for District 3, said he was aware of the charge being reinstated, according to The News: “We’ll work it all out.”
The report comes a day after WXYZ’s Ross Jones reported that Morris has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, spent time in prison and threatened a police officer in 2023.
Morris, who was elected as a write-in in a district where no candidate appeared on the ballot, says he has learned from his mistakes and was held accountable for his actions, WXYZ reports.
“I’m not proud of the things that I’ve done,” Morris told Jones. “And I have put my story out there. I would never try to withhold it.”
