Like the stock market, gas prices are going up and down.

AAA reports that Michigan motorists are paying an average of $2.98 per gallon for regular unleaded, up 15 cents from a week ago.

Still, the price is 2 cents less than this time last month and 9 cents less than last year at this time, AAA said.

"Michigan drivers are seeing the highest gas prices so far this year, with some metro areas averaging above $3 a gallon," Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA–The Auto Club Group, said in a statement.

According to AAA, the most expensive gas price averages included Ann Arbor ($3.07), Jackson ($3.02) and Lansing ($3.00).

The cheapest averages were in Traverse City ($2.50), Marquette ($2.77) and Benton Harbor ($2.88). Metro Detroit average is $2.98 per gallon.
