Sherrone Moore in court on Tuesday

The fallout from the scandal involving fired University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore didn’t end Tuesday. Instead, it closed a chapter, with likely more to come.

On Tuesday, Ann Arbor 14A District Court Judge Cedric Simpson sentenced Moore to 18 months’ probation for barging into the apartment last year of his former employee Paige Shiver, with whom he had a romantic relationship.

After the sentencing, Shiver blasted the university and criticized the sentence.

"Today’s sentence does not reflect the harm done to me or the objective evidence in this case," she said in a statement, according to WDIV.

Moore had pleaded no contest last month to two misdemeanors — trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunication device. A no contest plea means you don’t admit guilt but accept the convictions.

“I don’t believe, throughout the entirety of this case, that incarceration would be an appropriate sentence,” Simpson said, adding that he would have no problem sending Moore to jail if the defendant violated his probation. “… You had no right to do what you did," according to the Detroit News.

He was ordered to pay $1,345 in fines and court costs.

In her statement, Shiver also said:

“The University of Michigan gave this man limitless power and emboldened him to do whatever he wanted for years with no accountability. December 10th was the most terrifying day of my life."

“The criminal acts he committed were extremely frightening and violent. He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives. I was threatened, and I feared for my life."

The scandal sparked an ongoing investigation by the university into the culture of the athletic department. The law firm Jenner & Block has been leading the investigation, which has cost the university $9.5 million so far, according to the Detroit News.

It’s unclear what, if any, steps Shiver may take in response to the latest chapter.
