Henderson: Appeal Of Consent Agreement Is Stupid and Dangerous

June 04, 2012, 12:25 AM

The city of Detroit's lead attorney confirmed to Stephen Henderson of the Free Press Saturday that she has filed a court complaint seeking to invalidate the consent agreement that was signed in April.

Krystal Crittendon has asked the Court of Claims in Lansing on Friday to scuttle the agreement because state law prohibits intergovernmental pacts in which one party is indebted to another, and she says the state owes the city funds from a water bill and unfulfilled revenue-sharing commitments.

Crittendon filed the complaint Friday, and court officials are expected to notify the state of the formal legal challenge Monday.

Henderson writes: In my judgment, it's all flatly ridiculous. A stalling exercise in the middle of a four-alarm fire, something that does nothing more than distract from the dire need to get things fixed in the city.
