Walmart Adds Pickups for Online Grocery Orders in Three Suburbs

April 14, 2017, 6:59 AM

Walmart is the latest grocery chain to begin offering pickup service for oline orders. Others with the convenience locally are Kroger, Meijer and Busch's.

The newest service begins next week in the suburbs: Rochester Hills, Commerce and Chesterfield, reports Tyler Clifford of Crain's Detroit Business. Other local Walmarts are expected to offer the service later this year.

Patrons can visit walmart.com/grocery or use Walmart mobile app to buy items and select a pickup time and location. All items are priced the same as in the store.

"If you order by 10 a.m. you can pick up (the) same day," spokesman spokeswoman Anne Hatfield said, according to Crain's.  "The busiest time for ordering is between 8 and 9 at night because that's when young parents put their kids to bed and can finally find time to do their grocery shopping. As a working mom, I can totally support that because I do it myself."

To prevent long pickup lines, Walmart offers a certain number of slots per hour.
