A Detroit Homicide Detective's Poetic Take on Racism, Suburbs and Belonging

Khary Mason investigates murders for the Detroit Police Department as a homicide detective. The native Detroiter, a married father of three, is also a poet, photographer, storyteller and occasional contributor to Deadline Detroit. His latest is a poetic take on race, racism, crime, Detroit, moving to the suburbs for a better education for his children and simply belonging. This video, which he provided to Deadline Detroit, is titled "Where Do I Belong?"  

On Monday at 1:30 p.m., he'll get an award from the Detroit Police Department's Committee on Race and Equality (CORE) at headquarters.
