Hundreds of children -- many whose parents can't afford to give them the Christmas they deserve -- gathered Saturday at the 57th annual Most Holy Trinity Children's Christmas Party in Detroit's Corktown.

From around 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., children ages 5 to 10 from Corktown and Southwest Detroit listened to music, played games, chatted up Santa, decorated cookies and left with a bag of gifts at the IBEW Hall at 1358 Abbott St. in Detroit. For many, it may be the only Christmas gifts they receive.

The Most Holy Trinity Parish puts on the events with the help of donations and hundreds of volunteers.  (To help defray the cost, people are encouraged to send a donation to Most Holy Trinity Church, 1050 Porter St., Detroit, MI 48226.)

Deadline Detroit stopped in Saturday to witness a lot of joy.
