Leila, a new Lebanese Spot in Downtown Detroit, Is Freep Restaurant of the Year

With all the new restaurants popping up, it's difficult picking the best.

Detroit Free Press food writer Mark Kurlyandchik selects Leila, a Lebanese newcomer at 1245 Griswold in Detroit's Capitol Park, as 2020 Restaurant of the Year.

Leila, which opened in October, serves iconic dishes of the region, "while exuding a grace and elegance that defies a large, high-volume restaurant," Kurlyandchik writes.

The Freep heaps high praise on the ribs, hummus and kibbeh niyee made from ground American lamb leg sparked with cayenne and baharat.
