A fugitive suspected in six homicides shot himself in the head Monday afternoon in an Oak Park backyard after fleeing an adult bookstore on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, the Detroit Free Press reports. He was in critical condition at Providence Hospital in Southfield under police guard.

Kenyel Brown, 40, was wanted in connection with six homicides, two carjackings and one non-fatal shooting in and around Detroit, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told media Monday afternoon (video below).

He was spotted about 1:30 p.m. at the adult bookstore, Craig said. After fleeing on foot, he crossed over into neighboring Oak Park where police went looking for him. He shot himself once in the 20000 block of Ridgedale in the southend of Oak Park, according to media reports.
