A Detroit restaurant's sidewalk camera captures a vivid sight and sounds as a vehicle accelerates, screeches and smashes into two others on Van Dyke Avenue in the City Airport neighborhood.
WDIV posts the action (below) and describes what happened:
Video shows a blue 2019 Dodge Charger speeding on Van Dyke near Merkel Avenue at 9:37 p.m. Monday and slamming into the back of a white 2011 Lincoln. The Lincoln was spun sideways across the center line and struck by a gray 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.
All three cars came to rest outside the Van Dyke Coney Island. Restaurant workers rushed outside to help the crash victims.
Police arrested a 39-year-old man driving the Charger, who's at the Detroit Detention Center on a charge of operating while intoxicated.
These four others are hospitalized in stable condition, according to authorities:
-
A 41-year-old woman driving the Lincoln and her 14-year-old female passenger.
-
A 30-year-old man driving the Grand Prix and a 28-year-old woman accompanying him.
Here's how it looks and sounds on a video seen more than 2,000 times in under a day. Keep an eye on the upper right:
