"We are going to get through this," the governor says today.

The coronavirus continues to impact everyday life.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday ordered that all gatherings of "more than 250 people in a single shared space" be canceled or postponed, effective at 5 p.m. The ban runs through April 5.

The directive exempts industrial or manufacturing work, mass transit, groceries and other sellers or consumer goods.

Churches are not excluded, though a spokeswoman for the governor tells Bridge magazine that churches can stagger service times to keep attendance below the limit at each.

The two-page executive order comes a day after the governor closed K-12 schools, both public and private, for three weeks. College classes and major league sporting events have all already been canceled.

"This is about protecting the most people we can from the spread of coronavirus,” said Whitmer. “My administration will continue to do everything we can to mitigate the spread, and to ensure our children, families, and businesses have the support they need during this time.

"We are going to get through this, but we must be flexible and take care of each other."
