Monday Covid News: 1 of 96 Detroit Salon Workers Tests Positive | State Hits 5,772 Deaths

Only one of 96 Detroit hair and nail salon workers who took Covid tests this past weekend were found to be positive, Mayor Mike Duggan announced Monday. The mayor said the free rapid tests will continue to be offered to personal care business employees.

The announcement came as salons reopened around the state Monday. Detroit tests are offered at 100 Mack Ave. Appointment are necessary and can be made at (313) 251-4488.

Duggan said that Detroit Police Chief James Craig got a haircut on Monday after asking the barber to show proof of testing.

Nursing home deaths 

Nursing home patients account for 34% of Michigan's Covid related deaths, according to new state data.

There have been 1,947 deaths of nursing home residents with COVID-19 statewide and 20 deaths of staffers, the latest daily update shows Monday. Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties account for 72% of those deaths.

As of Monday, Michigan recorded 5,772 deaths and more than 60,000 confirmed cases.
