Kroger 'Karen:' White woman blocks black woman from leaving Livonia parking lot

June 17, 2020, 10:42 AM

It was only a matter of time before Metro Detroit's first viral Karen episode. (Karen: a slang term for a white woman perceived to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is considered reasonable, according to the Daily Mail.)

This Karen appears to have blocked a black woman's car in the parking lot of a Livonia Kroger after a testy exchange inside the store.

Shaneeka Montgomery-Strickland tells Fox 2 the woman became disgruntled Saturday when she saw one of her kids step on a shelf to reach a bottle of Gatorade. She says the woman went on to call her a bitch.

In the video taken outside, the unidentified Karen stands in front of Strickland's car with her toddler in a stroller, refusing to move. She demands Strickland delete images of her and her child.

Strickland tells the woman to get away from her vehicle and stop holding her "hostage."

Strickland calls police, who arrive shortly after. The woman rushes to the officers, who then ask Strickland if she'll delete the video. Strickland declines. It remains on her page days later, with more than 163,000 views. The incident has also made headlines internationally.
