Michigan is 1 of 2 national stars in outlook for limiting Covid spread

Our state is in the green zone, better than 48 others, in this pandemic-response analysis from respected experts.

The "on track to contain" status for Michigan and New York comes from Covid Act Now, a nonprofit team of technologists, epidemiologists, health experts and policy leaders. Since March 20, it has posted periodic maps to show what data suggests is ahead for each state in four general categories.

"Over 10 million Americans have used the model," it says. "We've engaged with dozens of federal, state, and local government officials, including the U.S. military and White House, to assist with response planning."

"This is good news," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said during a Wednesday news conference about the Covid Act Now tracking. But the governor added that the state must remain vigilant and flexible to avoid a second wave.

Separately, Michigan stands alone on a new display from Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center. This is the only state where new diagnoses were down by at least half last week, compared to the first week of June:
