Detroit's Grey Ghost Restaurant Temporarily Closes After Staff Member Tests Positive

June 28, 2020, 10:21 AM

Restaurants and bars knew operating in the Covid era would not be easy.

Grey Ghost in Detroit's Midtown closed for the weekend after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. The staff member was in the restaurant Tuesday, but had not worked a shift. The restaurant will remain closed as staff get tested for the virus, a Facebook note said.

Also this weekend, Imperial in Ferndale reported a customer said they had tested positive for Covid-19.

Detroit bar and restaurant workers are able to receive free rapid testing through the city. However, studies have shown the tests used, by Abbott Labs, can be inaccurate, missing as many as about 50 percent of positive cases

Here's the full message from Grey Ghost, posted to Facebook Friday:

Out of an abundance of caution, we are closing for the weekend to take deep cleaning and safety measures in accordance with our COVID-19 Playbook.

A team member who had been in the building Tuesday tested positive on Friday after off-site exposure to the virus, triggering this response. This team member has not yet worked a shift nor had any interactions with guests.

This health crisis is serious and requires a serious response, so we made the call to cease operations Friday for the duration of the weekend. All of our team members will undergo COVID-19 testing before returning to work as we will continue to prioritize the health of our work family and beloved patrons.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and trust as we take the careful and necessary steps to ensure a safe and healthy dining experience when we return to service.
