Detroit River Crossings Likely to Stay Shut for Non-Essential Traffic Until at Least December

In March, U.S. and Canada agreed to close border crossings for for all non-essential traffic because of Covid. 

That ban, which includes the Detroit-Windsor crossings, is likely to go until at least December or early next year, reports The Windsor Star.

"Any issue that has border in it is a hot-button issue in the U.S. The feeling is nothing will happen until at least December," Cross-Border Institute director Bill Anderson tells the paper. “It’s hard to imagine the U.S. administration engaging the Prime Minister on this until the next calendar year."

Some nearby Canadians are frustrated about being unable to visit Detroit. "What I miss is knowing it’s just something I can do,” says Mary Mac Lauchlan.
