How Republicans (t)roll: A MAGA cruise on Woodward alongside classic car fans

August 05, 2020, 2:00 PM

The timing of a "MAGA Classic Car Cruise" at the end of next week is no coincidence.

The four-hour event stunt Aug. 15 occurs on the customary Saturday of the Woodward Dream Cruise, which is offically cancelled for health safety but will be informally celebrated by drivers and spectators who cherish chrome, convertibles and nostalgia.

Oakland County's Republican Party invites partisans to roll from Bloomfield Hills to 8 Mile and back betrween noon and 4 p.m. to "support our president and back the blue -- decorate your cars to support the president and/or the police." Classic rides are optional.

Whether watching from lawn chairs or cruising the blacktop, allies are encouraged "to prominently display American and Trump flags or respectful signs that support President Trump and back the blue," county party chair Rocky Raczkowski tells the Free Press.

Two months ago, Republicans sponsored a boat parade June 13 on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River to celebrate the president’s 74th birthday.
