A 2-month-old died from Covid complications, the state said Wednesday.
Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun disclosed few details during a press conference, The Detroit News reports. She said about 800 children in the U.S. with multi-system inflammatory syndrome (MISC) associated with the virus.
"Studies show that while children are less likely to get severely ill from COVID-19, they still can," Khaldun said. "And they can also pass it on to others, including adults who are more likely to get sick or ill from Covid-19."
The infant's death is a grim reminder that people of any age can catch the virus.
Until now, the state's youngest pandemic victim was 5-year-old Skylar Herbert of Detroit, who died in April.
This news came on the day Michigan reported 680 new cases and 11 deaths.
