Royal Oak Elected Official Kim Gibbs Died with Covid

Kim Gibbs, a 48-year-old Royal Oak city commissioner, had Covid-19 when she died last month, the county medical examiner tells the Free Press. The main cause was brain damage caused by diabetes complications.

Coronavirus is listed as a contributory cause, the paper says.

Gibbs, 48, gained notoriety after she attended the "Operation Gridlock" rally last spring outside the state Capitol where hundreds gathered to protest Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's extension of her stay-at-home order to stem the spread of COVID-19. Gibbs was seen on TV without a face mask and not keeping social distance. ...

Gibbs died in a hospital Aug. 20, two weeks after her mother found her unconscious in her Royal Oak home.
