Election Day inspo: Michigan woman drives cross-country to cast ballot

November 03, 2020, 11:23 AM

A Michigan woman who was unable to have an absentee ballot mailed to her during what was to be a lengthy stay in Montana decided to leave early to make it back in time to vote for Joe Biden.

According to Michigan Advance, Michael Wilson, 23, was staying with her boyfriend and his family at a vacation home when the couple decided to make the 23-hour drive home.

Wilson will reportedly cast a ballot in the village of Paw Paw, in Van Buren County on the state's west side. She tells Michigan Advance:

“Because of 2016 [when Donald Trump was elected] and watching how much it can affect people and how much it can hurt people if it’s done  wrong, it just made it clear that not voting is not an option."
