A shortage of Pfizer Covid vaccine doses has prompted Beaumont to cancel appointments for 1,884 people who've already received their first shot, the hospital system announced Monday.

The snag is the result of an "unexpected and significant reduction" in the state's allotment of vaccine vials, a media release says.

Those affected were scheduled to receive their second shot Feb. 18. The health system says it will automatically reschedule canceled appointments to one week later at the same time and on the same day of the week, if the state supplies enough vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine remains effective if given within six weeks of the first.
