A 25-year-old Detroit man is charged in the ambush-slaying of an Uber driver in the early morning hours in January on the city's west side, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.

Carlous Skipper, Jr. faces charges of first-degree murder and a felony firearm count in the death of Yousef Al-Gabri, 43, of Detroit. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Detroit's 36th District Court.

On Jan. 14, authorities allege that Skipper used a phone under a different name to call for an Uber shortly after 2 a.m. in the 16000 block of Wisconsin near Florence.

When the ride arrived, authorities allege that Skipper opened fire and struck Al-Gabri. Detroit police found that the SUV Al-Gabri was driving crashed into a front porch. He was pronounced dead at a hospital from multiple gunshots.
