Legendary Detroit boxer Thomas "Hitman" Hearns caused a stir over the weekend with an Instagram claim that former middleweight champion Marvin Hagler was "in ICU fighting the after effects of the vaccine."

Hagler, 66, died soon after, triggering an outpouring of I-told-you-so posts from anti-vaxxers waging war against Covid shots.

On his Facebook fan page, Kay Hagler tries to dispell rumors her husband's death was related to a virus vaccine. She prefaced Monday's remarks by apologizing "if my English is not written correctly."

"I was the only person close to him until the last minute , and I am the only person that know how things went not even his family know all the details and I do NOT accept to read some stupid comment without knowing really what happen. For sure wasn't the vaccine that caused his death . My baby left in peace with his usually smile and now is not the time to talk nonsense.

Hearns earlier posted on social media:

"Allow us to have our peace. Our love and respect to Marvin and his family, this is not an anti vaccine campaign … It’s outrageous to have that in mind during the passing of a King, Legend, Father, Husband and so much more."

Hagler and Hearns, 62, battled in the ring in 1985 for about eight minutes in what some boxing fans say is one of the greatest contests in boxing history. Hagler won in the third round after it looked like Hearns might win.
