A guy makes a name for himself in a cutthroat industry, works with artists all over the musical map, probably has Keith Richards' cell number, and it turns out what Don Was really wants? Is to be Bud Spangler.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, you weren't listening to WDET in the '60s, when Spangler hosted a jazz show on the station. Like Oak Park native Was, he went on to become a producer and success in his field (although not with the Rolling Stones).
Was is doing it from the other direction, launching "The Don Was Motor City Playlist," debuting Friday night at 10 p.m. on the same station, WDET, 101.9. Hosting with Ann Delisi, he promises the show will be as close as possible to the experience of sitting around in a living room with the two of them, spinning records and telling stories about the artists, gleaned from Was' decades of experience as a performer and producer.
