While saying "the CDC made the right decision to relax their [mask] guidelines" for vaccinated Americans, Wayne State's president won't yet drop a requirement for covered faces in campus buildings.
"We do not have the ability to differentiate those who have been vaccinated from those who have not," M. Roy Wilson explains in an announcement.
"We need to operate in a manner that protects the safety of every member of our campus community. Therefore, masks will still be required indoors on Wayne State’s campus.
"Mask wearing outdoors, regardless of vaccination status, will no longer be required. We do ask that people continue to exercise caution and avoid large outdoor gatherings if the vaccination status of all participants is uncertain."

Wilson will discuss the policy and other Covid topics at a one-hour virtual town hall starting at 3 p.m. today, when he and others also will talk about fall semester plans, including the status of in-person classes.
The president will be joined by Interim Provost Laurie Lauzon Clabo and campus restart committee members. They'll also answer questions during the livestreamed event.
