Gretchen Whitmer is getting early re-election campaign help from the White House.
Kamala Harris is scheduled to speak at a Monday fundraiser for the governor during her first visit to Detroit as vice president, the Detroit Free Press reports. She'll also appear at TCF Center for a "voting rights listening session" at 2 p.m. and address a vaccine mobilization event there around 3:30 p.m.
Though he has not yet officially announced, ex-Detroit Police Chief James Craig is expected to challenge Whitmer. He has been meeting with prominent Republicans to line up support for the 2022 race.
