A couple from the Grand Rapids area, who were vaccinated and had pre-existing medical conditions, died in the hospital Sunday from Covid within a minute of one another, Fox 17 reports.

Cal, 59, and Linda Dunham, 66, of Cedar Springs, Mich., were holding hands next to one another in hospital beds at the time of their deaths.

Their daughter Sarah Dunham tells the station her parents were cautious about Covid, but began feeling sick.

“[My dad] called me before our family camping trip and said he wasn’t feeling good but he thinks it’s just like sinus, and [Linda] caught it and she’s like, he gave me his cold,” said Sarah. “The third day they woke me up and said, ‘we’ve got to go because we don’t feel well.’ So I packed them all up and they left.”

Days later, they were hospitalized and on ventilators. On Sunday, at 11:07 a.m., Cal died. At 11:08 a.m., Linda passed.

Medical experts say the vaccines are highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death, but not 100 percent foolproof. Health experts have recommended booster vaccines for immunocompromised people. It's not clear from the Fox 17 report if the couple had gotten the booster.

GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs. As of Tuesday at noon, $1,690 has been raised.
