These are divided times.

Henry Ford Health System announced this week that about 400 workers -- 1 percent of the workforce -- resigned rather than take the mandated Covid vaccine.

More than 30,000 staffers are fully vaccinated and about 1,900 (6 percent) got received a medical or religious exemption, the hospital system says.

Bob Riney, president of healthcare operations and chief operating officer, said during a press conference that if people change their minds about getting vaccinated, they can reapply.

"We are doing all we can to keep those doors open,” Riney said. “Whatever their choice, we wish them the very best and appreciate the years of service they provided our community and organization.

On June 29, Henry Ford became the first health system in Michigan to announce an employee vaccine requirement, effective Sept. 10. At that time, 68 percent of the workforce was vaccinated.

Mandated Covid shots has become a hot-topic button and political flashpoint atrallies and on social media.
