Metro Detroit UAW Official Accused of Embezzling $2 Million for Gambling, Cars and Guns

Timothy Edmunds, financial secretary-treasurer of UAW Local 412 in Warren, is charged with embezzling more than $2 million froim the union to pay for gambling at Greektown Casino, high-end cars, clothes and guns, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit announced Wednesday.

Edmunds, 53, of South Lyon, is charged in a criminal complaint with embezzling, money laundering, failing to maintain union records and filing false reports with the Department of Labor between 2015 and 2021. 

UAW Local 412 represents approximately 2,600 members working for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) at the Sterling Stamping Plant, Mack Engine Plant, Warren Truck Assembly Plant, Warren Stamping Plant and Jefferson  Assembly Plant, among others. 

Authorities allege that Edmunds systematically drained Local 412 accounts by using union debit cards for over $142,000 in personal purchases, cashing Local 412 checks worth $170,000 and placing them in accounts he controlled and transferring $1.5 million from UAW accounts into personal ones.

To conceal the theft from UAW officers and Local 412 members, Edmunds allegedly created false bank statements and financial reports to the Department of Labor.  

Authorities charged that from 2018-20, Edmunds used the UAW Local 412 debit card for over $30,000 in unauthorized withdrawals at the Greektown Casino. While gambling there, Edmunds had cash buy-ins of over $1 million and put more than $16 million in play.

Additionally, Edmunds is accused of buying:

► At least 10 firearms ranging in price from $500 to $2,000.

► A 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT for $74,365

► A 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk for $96,419

► A 2021 Dodge Durango for $76,491

► And leasing two 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Edmunds is the 17th person charged in an ongoing federal investigation into corruption within the UAW and crooked FCA  executives.  Former UAW presidents Gary Jones got 28 months and Dennis Williams drew 21 months.
