16 new Covid cases at Detroit's Mumford HS; 17 pupils affected at Plymouth middle school

Covid transmission remains a problem at Mumford High School in Detroit, where 16 new cases affected students during the past week. Two weeks earlier, the west side school on Wyoming Avenue reported 22 pandemic diagnoses.

Another notable cluster on the state health department's weekly list of new school clusters and outbreaks is at Pioneer Middle School in Plymouth, where 17 students have been hit by the pandemic since last Monday.

The only other Wayne County school on the latest list, which covers sites with at least three school-related cases, is Henry Ford Elementary School in Dearborn with five affected students.

Overall, the tricounty Detroit area has 74 new school cases in the past seven days.

Fifteen new Oakland cases are reported at four buildings:

  • Clarkston Elementary, 4 students

  • Berkley: Rogers Elementary, 3 pupils

  • Southfield Christian School, 4 students 

  • Walled Lake Elementary, 4 pupils and staff

In Macomb County, the state reports 21 cases at four schools:

  • Warren Woods Christian School (elementary), 7 pupils and staff

  • Warren: Crothers Elementary, 6 pupils

  • Fraser: Emerson Elementary, 5 pupils and staff

  • Sterling Heights: Havel Elementary, 3 pupils and staff

Statewide, the Department of Health and Human Services reports 87 clusters with 521 new cases overall, a drop from the previous week.
