'I don't have to protect any RINO Republicans' -- Ousted Macomb GOP Chair

April 12, 2022, 1:13 PM

Mark Forton

Mark Forton, ousted Monday night as the Macomb County Republican Party chairman, vows vowed to go after opponents aggressively. "I don't have to protect any RINO Republicans," he tells The Detroit News.

GOP delegates voted 158-123 to unseat Forton because of a "lack of confidence."

He tells The News he plans to launch a recall campaign against Republican Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini if he doesn't allow Mellissa Carone on the ballot as a state House candidate. Carone gained notoriety in 2020 when she testified with Rudy Giuliani at a Lansing hearing on the election.

Forlini recently disqualified Carone from the ballot because she signed an affidavit falsely claiming she had no outstanding campaign finance issues.

Forton criticizes Republicans in the state who haven't supported ex-President Trump and his claims of election fraud in 2020 -- which he restated Monday night before being replaced by Eric Castiglia.

And in another abrupt swith, the county party has a new logo on its Facebook page (left) as of late Tuesday morning.
